Hey guys,
It’s been a few weeks since I last blogged. The honest reason behind this is that I’ve been up to pretty much the same as everyone else during this difficult time (well, nearly — I haven’t taken any long-haul drives to Durham… 😳). I’m sure you will all agree, it’s hard not being able to see friends and family, and even harder for those who’ve sadly lost loved ones to this pandemic which I’m eternally grateful not to have suffered.
Hopefully, if we all follow the correct guidelines and a vaccine is hopefully found, we’ll be back to normal in no time (or as near as we can be).
So, aside from putting the final touches to The Hollow Ship and ploughing on with The Fractured Peace, my wife and I have been keeping our 3-year-old daughter amused with baking, outdoor play in the garden, and activities inside when the weather isn’t the best… that’s where Disney movies have sometimes saved the day 😂.
During all this carnage, our 3-month-old daughter has been babbling, gurgling and making us laugh in between feeds and the stinky results of said feeding.
We’ve also been keeping in touch with friends and family, via video calls, taking part in quizzes and keeping sanity levels in check.
As well as writing, I’m reading a fair bit. I recently finished World Without End, by Ken Follett, the 2nd instalment of his brilliant Kingsbridge novels. Set in the mid-fourteenth century, against the backdrop of the Hundred Years’ War and the Black Death, I found it equally engrossing as it’s predecessor. I thoroughly recommend it if you’re looking for epic historical fiction. I’m about a fifth of the way through Column of Fire and enjoying it, so far.
With regard to my upcoming novels, I’ll keep posting updates and should have a release date for The Hollow Ship soon. The 2nd draft is going really well and I’m quite happy with the story. I always like doing this draft as it always remedies little niggles and plot holes and reminds me that 1st drafts are generally always rough as the proverbial badger’s backside!
Take care and keep safe.
G
